ADMIRA AND BOSKO

This page is dedicated to Admira Ismic and Bosko Brkic.

She was a muslim and he an orthodox christian, both were Slavs.

They were 25 and had been together for nine years, having met at school.  Seeking safety, they decided to flee the besieged city of Sarajevo in May of 1993.  Both muslim and christian officials had granted them safe passage and had promised them that they would not be hurt.  However, as they crossed over the Vrbanja bridge, they were deliberately gunned down by christian snipers.  Bosko died immediately and Admira, wounded crawled through the mud towards her childhood sweetheart.  She put her arm around him tenderly and without trying to escape to save herself, died by his side.  Their bodies lay there for five days.

They died as heroes, worthy of their common ancestors, who carved out a homeland in the Balkans.  But the god of the desert does not tolerate a love so strong.  A love that transcends even death, a love that will last forever!

LIPE CVATU (mp3)

Lime trees are blooming
everything is as it was before
only your heart and my heart
aren't in love any more

There used to be an alley of lime trees along the River Miljacka in Sarajevo, where young couples used to go.
